Local builder Rick Burns of Infinite Building Solutions Ltd having purchased the Mercy Renovators factory from the liquidators says he is able to give the Bartlett’s his time and has had some help from local suppliers. He is calling on the community, qualified trades people, and suppliers to pull together and help out to show the Bartlett’s Hawkes Bay businesses and the community have a heart.

Rick has installed a second hand bath kindly donated by another couple that fell prey to Mercy Renovators and installed a zip heater he had spare, as the Bartlett’s had not had any running hot water since February 2014 and had to resort to washing in a bucket.

These are good people who had their trust abused, New Zealander’s have always been known for their community spirit and willingness to help one another in need, we at Infinite Building Solutions are doing all we can to help get this couple into their house so Anahera can complete her treatment in the comfort of her own home, any help is greatly appreciated.

We have set up a Give a Little page for those who can support the Bartlett's to finish their home, click here.

Richard Bartlett returned to New Zealand in February looking forward to early retirement with his wife Anahera after having worked the Western Australian mining camps. He now finds himself penniless and currently having to live out of a caravan overlooking his unfinished home.

The reason for this, hiring Mercy Renovators to renovate his family home.

Richard decided instead of tackling all the little repairs to contact Mercy Renovators and get the whole house renovated. The following day Mercy Renovators brought a team to look over and quote.

Within days of accepting the quote a team arrived and proceeded to pull the house apart, the initial progress was exciting but all too soon it came to a standstill.

Within days of accepting the quote a team arrived and proceeded to pull the house apart, the initial progress was exciting but all too soon it came to a standstill.  Whilst Richard’s wife Anahera who was and is still currently suffering with ill health remained with relatives in New Zealand, Richard returned to Australia to work in the mines believing his home had been left in good hands.

However, Richard became increasingly concerned with the lag in progress after making visits to check on how things were moving along, eventually deciding he had to return to be on site to keep the momentum going.

Mercy Renovators repeatedly pushed for more extensive renovations when issues arose and consequently more money, new roofing iron became a whole new roof structure, cladding repairs became a full reclad. September rolled around and nothing had progressed other than the levels of promises.

On Richard’s last visit to Mercy Renovators he threatened legal action if the house was not completed in an acceptable time. To placate the situation, Richard was shown around the showroom and was pointed out tiles and paint colours that could be used in their kitchen whilst Mercy Renovators knowing full well it would never come to fruition as they were days away from going into voluntary liquidation.

Mercy Renovators promised a “building blitz” in order to complete the job and even asked for more money to apparently pay for doors and windows, but two days later Mercy Renovators was no longer the liquidators came in and shut the doors.

Richard and Anahera Bartlett had paid for a fully finished house, down to floor coverings, fireplace, ventilation system and white-ware. Yet what Richard has left of his late parent’s home is an empty and incomplete dusty shell. He is not eager to say how much they are out of pocket but suffice to say it was their entire life savings.

Richard Bartlett has now had to return to work, with the thought in mind he would now have to purchase most of what he had already purchased from Mercy Renovators.

“This home was for my grandkids – our family home”.
